NHS weight loss mounjaro how to get

Can You Get Mounjaro or Ozempic on the NHS?

Yes—but only if you meet specific NHS criteria.

The NHS currently restricts access to these medications to people who fit defined medical guidelines. How it works:

For Mounjaro (tirzepatide):
* Approved by NICE in 2025 for adults with BMI ≥ 35 kg/m² and at least one weight-related condition, such as:
* Type 2 diabetes
* Hypertension
* Obstructive sleep apnoea
* Dyslipidaemia
* For certain ethnic groups (including South Asian, Black, and Middle Eastern populations), the BMI threshold may be slightly lower.
* You must receive it within a specialist weight-management service—not from a regular GP.
* You’ll also need to engage in diet, exercise and behavioural support alongside medication.

For Ozempic (semaglutide):
* Only prescribed for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss.
* If your goal is weight reduction, the NHS may instead offer Wegovy, which is the same medication but approved specifically for obesity management.

In other words, Mounjaro is approved for weight loss in certain patients, while Ozempic remains diabetes-only on the NHS.

What’s the Reality of Getting It on the NHS?

Even if you meet the clinical criteria, access remains limited.

NHS obesity services are overstretched and limited, and the new rollout of Mounjaro will be phased in gradually.

This means:
* Referral waiting lists may stretch for years.
* Local availability depends on regional NHS commissioning
* Specialist clinics will prioritise those with the highest need (for example with very high BMI)

So while the GPs are beginning to offer Mounjaro, many patients who are eligible won’t get immediate access—especially in 2026 as supply and capacity expand slowly. The Government is currently negotiating with the manufacturer of Mounjaro, a US pharma company Eli Lilly to obtain Mounjaro at a reduced price.

Private Treatment Options on Harley Street

Because of NHS delays and eligibility restrictions, many patients are now turning to private, doctor-led programmes.

At CutKilo (Harley Street, London), we offer a fully regulated weight loss treatment using Mounjaro, under the supervision of Dr Emil Gadimali.

My approach includes:
1. Initial medical assessment by me – reviewing your weight, health history, and suitability for medication.
2. Baseline blood testing (if you have medical problems, if not – we do not waste your money)
3. Prescription and dosage plan – personalised to your progress.
4. 1hour free consultation with an in-house dietitian – Hanna Baldursdottir.
5. Monthly check-ins – online or in-person on Harley Street.

Unlike generic online providers, my service ensures face-to-face medical oversight, verified medication, and a clear off-ramp plan to help you maintain your results sustainably.

Counterfeit Caution!

With rising social-media hype, counterfeit Mounjaro pens and unsafe online “pharmacies” have appeared.
 Always ensure your prescription comes from a GMC-registered prescriber and a GPhC-regulated pharmacy.

At CutKilo, all medications are dispensed via legitimate UK pharmacy partners.
