CutKilo - How to Manage Nausea on Mounjaro with Food

Nausea is one of the most common side effects of Mounjaro (tirzepatide). The good news is that simple food choices can make a big difference.

Eat Small, Frequent Meals

Instead of three large meals, try eating smaller portions throughout the day. This helps prevent your stomach from feeling too full. This is especially relevant in the beginning of your weight loss medication journey, as you may find that you are able to eat regular meals once side effects subside.

Choose Gentle Foods

Mild foods are easier on digestion when you’re feeling queasy. Try:

  • Crackers or dry toast
  • Plain rice or oatmeal
  • Bananas or applesauce
  • Clear soups or broths
  • White fish and poultry as a source of protein

Implement Good Mealtime Habits

What you eat is important but so is how you eat:

  • Eat slowly
  • Eat only if you are actually hungry
  • Avoid lying down after having a meal
  • Stop eating in case of feeling of fullness
  • Eat without distractions and enjoy savouring the food
  • Take a walk after meals
  • Avoid eating too close to bedtime

Stay Hydrated

Sip water slowly throughout the day, being mindful to avoid drinking with meals. On weight loss medications, drinking between meals is preferred.

Avoid Common Triggers

Some foods may be harder to tolerate on weight loss medications. Here are some foods to be mindful of:

  • High fat, fried foods
  • Very spicy meals
  • Carbonated drinks
  • Strong-smelling foods
  • Dairy (mostly while adapting to the medication)

Try Ginger or Peppermint

Both ginger and peppermint have natural anti-nausea properties. Ginger tea, ginger chews, or peppermint tea can be helpful.
